S.O.M.E Leads the Way: Successful Coastal Waste Brand Audit

The Student Organization of Marine Engineering (S.O.M.E) has once again proven their commitment to protecting the environment through their latest initiative, the Coastal Waste Brand Audit.

This event, held on May 26, 2024, was a collaborative effort with various organizations such as the local barangay of South San Juan, Mariknows Philippines, United States Government Alumni Association (USGAA), Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), San Pedro College Internalization and Linkages Office, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The main objective of this audit was to assess the amount and types of waste found along the shoreline of South San Juan Village in Barangay Centro, Agdao District, Davao City.

The DMMA’s Marine Engineering students, along with other volunteers, worked tirelessly to gather and categorize the trashes and debris found in the area.

The event also served as a platform for educating and raising awareness among the local community about the importance of proper waste management and its impact on the environment.
